     About Us

“Soothing touch, whether it be applied to a ruffled cat, a crying infant, or a frightened child, has a universally recognized power to ameliorate the signs of distress. How can it be that we overlook its usefulness on the jangled adult as well? What is it that leads us to assume that the stressed child merely needs “comforting,” while the stressed adult needs “medicine”? “

Who We Are:

Monroe Therapeutic Massage is a unique massage practice and the largest medical massage clinic in Washington State. Serving the greater Puget Sound area with 6 clinic locations and 3 satellite hospital locations. Our massage therapists specialize in many types of massage therapy. Physicians have trusted our massage services for their patients for over 14 years.

Medical Massage for the Community:

Monroe Therapeutic Massage is uniquely structured to be easy for MD’s, Chiropractors, ND’s, Physical Therapists, and other medical providers to refer to. Every visit is charted and regular progress reports are sent back to the referring provider. We are interested in working together with the patient’s full health care team and want to keep referring providers up to date with their patient’s progress. The patient is always our first priority at Monroe Therapeutic Massage, and the best care that they can receive relies on the referring provider knowing how their treatment is progressing. In this way, the medical community can work together in concert towards the patient’s health.

We are preferred providers for most insurance carriers as well as L & I, Personal Injury Protection and Third Party claims.

History of Monroe Therapeutic Massage:

In 2000 Glyn Desmond and Jeanette Wahl combined their separate massage practices with the goal of working together with doctors to provide a higher quality medical massage service for patients. They also set out to provide the space for Medical Massage Practitioners to focus solely on doing the work needed for patients with special therapeutic massage needs.

In 2002 the first satellite location with Swedish Hospital’s downtown Seattle branch was established, allowing for complimentary and alternative medicine to have physical space within the hospital for the first time. Following Monroe Therapeutic Massage’s entrance, NDs were able to be brought on board to Swedish’s oncology team. This follows exactly with the founder’s vision of a complimentary and integrative medical service for patients that need it, with Monroe Therapeutic Massage communicating and coordinating with other providers so that the quality of our services is raised for everyone.
